The best GEO tools in 2026 compared: Semrush, Ahrefs, Peec AI, Otterly, Profound, Scrunch, Goodie, and Rankscale. Real pricing, engines tracked, and my picks by budget.

Two weeks ago I published my playbook for getting cited by AI search. The most common reply was a simple question: what tool do I use to track whether it is working? So I did the research properly. This is every GEO tool worth knowing in October 2026, with real pricing, real engine coverage, and a straight verdict on which one is worth your money.

The short answer: which GEO tool should you buy?

The short answer is that there is no single best GEO tool, only the best one for your budget and your workflow. If you already pay for Semrush or Ahrefs, use their AI visibility add-on before buying anything new. If you are a solo creator or small team on a budget, start with Otterly AI at around $29 a month or Rankscale at around $20 a month. If you need multilingual or agency tracking, Peec AI from around $89 a month is the sweet spot. Enterprise teams with compliance requirements should shortlist Profound. Everything below explains why.

What GEO tools actually measure

A GEO tool answers one question: when an AI engine answers questions in your space, does your brand show up, and if so, how does it look? Everything in the category maps onto four signals, and this is the framework I use to judge every tool below.

Visibility. How often your brand gets named across tracked prompts, usually expressed as share of voice against competitors. This is the headline metric of the whole category.

Citation. Whether the engine links your domain as a source, not just mentions you in passing. A mention without a citation is awareness; a citation is traffic. Good tools separate the two.

Sentiment. How the model frames you: recommended, criticized, neutral, or factually wrong. A mention that misrepresents you is worse than no mention, and this is the signal most buyers underestimate.

Action. What to change. The best tools go beyond dashboards and tell you which prompts you lose, which pages the engines trust instead of yours, and what content to ship next. This is where cheap trackers and expensive platforms actually diverge.

Keep these four signals in mind while reading the comparisons. A $29 tool that tracks visibility well beats a $300 tool whose recommendation engine you will never open.

1. Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit

Semrush is the suite play. The standalone AI Visibility Toolkit tracks brand mentions, sentiment, and share of voice against up to nine competitors across ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, Google AI Overviews, Gemini, and Perplexity. Semrush claims a prompt database in the hundreds of millions and backs it with the largest SEO data foundation in the category, a 43-trillion backlink index and a 28-billion keyword database.

Where it wins: if you already run SEO in Semrush, this is the only option that connects AI share of voice directly to the rankings and backlinks behind it. One login, one bill, unified reporting.

Where it loses: it is an add-on mentality product. The standalone toolkit tracks only about 25 custom prompts daily for one domain, which a serious GEO program outgrows fast. You also need the Semrush subscription itself, and extra seats start at $45 a month each, which stings for teams.

Developer take: the right call if your team already lives in Semrush. The wrong call if you are buying Semrush purely for GEO, because most of the price pays for SEO features you may not use.

2. Ahrefs Brand Radar

Ahrefs went the add-on route too. Brand Radar layers AI visibility onto the Ahrefs workflow you probably already know, covering Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Copilot, with a prompt database Ahrefs puts between 100 and 250 million.

Where it wins: comprehensiveness beyond AI search. Brand Radar watches mentions across AI engines, search, video, and social, so it works as a general brand-health dashboard. If your company already pays for Ahrefs, adding this is cheaper than a second vendor.

Where it loses: the tiering is confusing and the top end is expensive, with published figures ranging from around $50 a month for basic visibility up to $199-plus for the full bundle. Like Semrush, it assumes you wanted the SEO suite anyway.

Developer take: pick this over Semrush's toolkit if you are already an Ahrefs shop and care about brand monitoring beyond AI engines. Otherwise the same suite-tax warning applies.

3. Peec AI

Peec is the international pick. It tracks prompts across 10-plus LLMs in 115-plus languages with no per-country surcharge, and it is built for agencies running multi-client projects, with detailed citation reports per client.

Where it wins: multilingual tracking without the enterprise sales call. Few tools cover that many languages at this price point, and the agency partner program makes it practical for client work.

Where it loses: it is a monitoring tool first. You get clean data on where you stand against competitors, but the content execution still lives with your team. Pricing sits in an awkward middle: several published comparisons list it anywhere from around $89 to $99 a month depending on plan and region, so confirm your actual quote.

Developer take: the best value in the category for non-English markets and freelancers managing multiple clients. If your audience is English-only and you work solo, Otterly gets you 80 percent of the value for a third of the price.

4. Otterly AI

The budget champion. Otterly covers ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, and Copilot from around $29 a month, with a free trial and genuinely useful free utilities. Multiple independent comparisons land on it as the strongest pick under $30.

Where it wins: speed and price. Setup is fast, the UI is clean, and the domain and URL audit features mean a solo creator can run a real GEO program on day one. Unlimited brand reports and team members on paid plans removes the seat-count anxiety other tools create.

Where it loses: depth. The prompt sets are simpler, the analytics are less granular than enterprise platforms, and you will not get procurement-grade compliance documentation out of it.

Developer take: this is my default recommendation for solo developers, indie hackers, and small agencies. The money question in GEO is never really the tool price, it is whether you act on the data. A $29 tool you check weekly beats a $299 tool you never log into.

5. Profound

The enterprise answer. Profound does multi-engine prompt testing with granular citation attribution and, crucially for big companies, enterprise security and compliance posture including SOC 2 Type II. Entry pricing starts around $99 a month but covers ChatGPT only; multi-engine tracking and serious volume live on the $399 Growth tier and custom Enterprise plans.

Where it wins: procurement. If your org requires security reviews, SSO, and compliance paperwork, Profound is built for that process in a way none of the budget tools are. The sentiment and framing analysis is genuinely deep.

Where it loses: the entry tier is a teaser. ChatGPT-only tracking at $99 a month is poor value unless you are buying it as an evaluation step toward an enterprise deal. This is a sales-led product, so expect a sales call, not a signup button.

Developer take: shortlist it when compliance is a hard requirement or when the buyer is a large brand. Ignore it as an indie or a startup; you are paying for paperwork you do not need.

6. Scrunch AI

Scrunch is the diagnostic tool for engineering-led teams. Beyond citation tracking across seven-plus engines including Meta AI, it adds crawler and agent-traffic diagnostics: which AI crawlers hit your site, what they fetched, and whether they succeeded. It also tracks GA4 referrals from AI engines, closing the loop between visibility and actual traffic.

Where it wins: nobody else in this price band gives you crawler-level data. If your site is JavaScript-heavy or you suspect AI crawlers are failing on your pages, Scrunch tells you things a dashboard-only tool cannot.

Where it loses: $250 a month is real money, and the diagnostics demand a technical user. A marketing-only team will use half the product.

Developer take: my pick for developer-led teams with technical sites. The crawler diagnostics justify the price the moment they catch one rendering failure that was silently killing your AI visibility.

7. Goodie AI

Goodie positions as the brand-narrative platform for mid-market and enterprise: prompt-level brand-mention tracking, sentiment monitoring, and optimization recommendations across a wide engine list that includes DeepSeek, Grok, and Meta AI alongside the usual suspects. Published comparisons put entry pricing around $495 a month, custom-quoted.

Where it wins: breadth of engines and a marketer-friendly workflow that pairs monitoring with optimization actions in one place. Good fit for ecommerce and product-visibility use cases.

Where it loses: the price puts it out of reach for everyone except funded startups and mid-market brands, and it is custom-quoted, so budget for a sales cycle.

Developer take: evaluate it if you are a brand marketer with budget and you want monitoring plus optimization in one contract. Otherwise the cheaper tools cover the same engines.

8. Rankscale

Rankscale is the cheapest credible option in the category at around $20 a month, with a free tier. It reduces GEO to a single visibility score with drill-down reporting, benchmarked across multiple AI engines.

Where it wins: price and simplicity. For a side project or an early startup, a single score you check monthly is better than a $200 dashboard you ignore.

Where it loses: one score hides a lot. You get less prompt-level detail and fewer engines than Otterly, which costs only slightly more.

Developer take: pick Rankscale when the budget is truly minimal and you just need to know the direction of travel. Step up to Otterly when you can afford $9 more a month, the extra engine coverage is worth it.

Pricing: the real cost landscape in 2026

Step back from the individual tools and the market segments cleanly:

Under $50 a month. Otterly AI ($29) and Rankscale ($20) cover the engines that matter for monitoring. This is where solo creators, indie hackers, and small agencies should start. Several comparisons also flag Ahrefs Brand Radar's basic tier near $50 for Ahrefs users.

$89 to $300 a month. Peec AI ($89-99), Scrunch AI ($250), and AthenaHQ (~$295 self-serve) add depth: more engines, citation-level detail, crawler diagnostics, or executive reporting. Buy here when the business case is proven, not before.

Enterprise and custom. Profound and Goodie AI are sales-led and priced accordingly, starting in the high hundreds and scaling with volume. You are paying for compliance, security reviews, and account management as much as software.

Suite add-ons. Semrush (~$99/mo per domain standalone, or bundled in Semrush One from ~$199/mo) and Ahrefs (tiered, up to ~$199+/mo) make sense only if you already pay for the suite. Buying either suite purely for GEO is the most expensive way to enter this category.

One honest observation from the pricing research: the category is young enough that pricing pages change quarterly. Any comparison that does not date its prices is unreliable by default, including older versions of this post if I forget to refresh it. I will update the table above every quarter.

How to pick without overpaying

  1. Start free, always

Run HubSpot's AI Search Grader for a free one-off readiness score, and manually test your five most important prompts in ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity. If your brand shows up nowhere, you have a content problem, not a tooling problem. My GEO playbook covers the content side in detail.

  2. Prove the channel matters before you pay

Check your analytics for AI referral traffic (ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini all show up as referrers in GA4). If AI engines are already sending you visitors, a paid tracker has a measurable job. If they send nothing, spend the money on content first.

  3. Buy the cheapest tool that covers your engines

For most readers that is Otterly AI at ~$29/month. Upgrade to Peec AI when you need multilingual or multi-client tracking, to Scrunch AI when you need crawler diagnostics, and to Profound when compliance demands it.

  4. Re-evaluate quarterly

GEO tools are a fast-moving category. Set a calendar reminder every three months: is the tool still the cheapest one that covers your engines and workflow? Vendors add and drop engines constantly, and yesterday's best deal rots fast.

FAQ

What is a GEO tool?

A GEO (generative engine optimization) tool tracks how your brand appears in AI-generated answers from ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, and similar engines. It measures brand mentions, share of voice, sentiment, and which sources get cited, then recommends fixes to improve your AI-search visibility.

How much do GEO tools cost in 2026?

Entry-level monitoring starts around $25-50 a month with tools like Otterly AI or Rankscale. Mid-market platforms with execution features run roughly $89-300 a month, covering Peec AI, Scrunch AI, and AthenaHQ. Enterprise tools like Profound and Goodie AI are custom-priced and sales-led, while Semrush and Ahrefs sell AI visibility as an add-on to subscriptions you may already pay for.

Is there a free GEO tool?

Yes, for getting started. HubSpot's AI Search Grader is free and gives a one-off AI-readiness score. LLMrefs has a genuinely usable free plan for a single keyword, and Otterly publishes free utilities. Free tiers are enough to confirm AI search matters for your brand, but running an actual program takes a paid plan.

Can I do GEO without a paid tool?

Yes, manually. Run your key prompts in ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity yourself on a schedule, record whether your brand appears and how it is framed, and watch AI referral traffic in your analytics. It scales badly past a dozen prompts, which is exactly when a paid tool pays for itself.

Should I buy a GEO tool or an SEO tool first?

SEO first, always. AI search retrieves from the same web index that classic search uses, so crawlability and topical authority are prerequisites. Buy a GEO tool when you already have pages worth being cited, not before. If you only have budget for one suite, Semrush and Ahrefs now bundle AI visibility with their SEO platforms.

Do GEO tools work for small sites and solo creators?

Yes. AI search cares more about whether a passage directly answers the query than about domain size. Budget tools starting around $25-50 a month cover the engines that matter. The expensive part is never the tool, it is the content work the tool tells you to do.

Track it, then get cited

A GEO tool tells you where you stand. Standing somewhere useful takes content built to be cited: answer-first structure, comparison tables, original data, and schema that machines can parse. That is exactly what my GEO playbook walks through, step by step.

I run GEO audits for dev teams and founders: I take your site, check how it shows up across ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity, and hand you the exact fixes, from content structure to tool selection to refresh cadence. If AI search is eating your traffic, details are on my about page.

Buy the cheapest tool that covers your engines. Then do the content work it tells you about.
